Introducing THE STRING RAYS - A Fun-Loving "New" Grass Band

In October 2021, Brenna is delighted to announce the launch of The String Rays, a fun-loving, acoustic "new" grass band with a unique sound that combines cello, mandolin, guitar, harmonica and rich vocal harmonies. The new group's heartwarming mix of originals and classic folk-country, Americana, progressive bluegrass and blues favorites will have you laughing, crying, and tapping your toes. From Englewood, Florida, the group showcases the talents of Brenna Larson, Jeff Cowherd, Rene Wold and Coleen Marren.

BRENNA LARSON is the lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist for The String Rays. As a performer, Brenna combines warmth and wit to engage audiences in her personal journey as a mother, career woman, shop-a-holic, and folk diva. The String Rays performs many of Brenna's original tunes, as well as a wide variety of classic favorites performed with a new twist.

JEFF COWHERD’s kick-ass mandolin riffs and rich vocal leads and harmonies add a unique sound to The String Rays. Jeff hails from Kentucky where he made the switch from lead guitar rocker to "new" grass and blues-infused mandolin picker 30+ years ago and never looked back. Along the way, he spun his love of mandolins into his own mandolin brand, “JBovier”, now headquartered in Englewood, FL.

RENEÉ WOLD is an accomplished cellist who can play anything from classical to folk, while contributing tight backup harmonies to The Sting Rays. Originally from Fargo, ND, she studied piano, guitar and cello, later performing with community orchestras and eclectic ensembles in Northern Minnesota.  A woman of multiple talents, she worked as a florist, sign language interpreter, and sign shop owner before retiring  to Florida for sunshine and musical opportunities.

COLEEN MARREN rounds out the group with vibrant harmonica, guitar and rhythm backup while belting out the blues with her own unique, gutsy style. Originally from New England, she had a distinguished career as a television executive before retiring to pursue her passion for music.

We hope to see you at one of our upcoming gigs -- check our calendar to find one near you. And we encourage you to LIKE and follow The String Rays on FACEBOOK for our latest news.

Introducing The Shark Sisters - A Fun, Acoustic Trio

Thanks to all who attended my CD Release party in January. It was a cold night (for Florida), but we filled Vino Loco's patio with a warm, wonderful crowd for a truly magical night! Looking forward to heading back to Vino Loco  in Englewood (FL) for several dates now booked for May and June.

I also wanted to let you know that, together with Beth Travers & Coleen Marren, the two talented musicians who performed with me at the CD release party, we have formed a fun and "totally jawsome" trio called The SHARK Sisters. You'll see in the upcoming dates on my CALENDAR that I'll be performing primarily with our trio over the next few months as it's, quite simply, more fun!

For more info about Beth and Coleen, check out www.sharksisters.com -- and be our "chum" on FACEBOOK

We hope to see you at an upcoming event!

New Release - LIKE FINE WINE album now available!

With LIKE FINE WINE, Brenna Larson uncorks her debut album of acoustic originals after years of fermentation and procrastination. Brenna's rich vocals and finger-picking guitar skills combine with her warmth and wit to convey a unique perspective on life as a woman of a certain age.

LIKE FINE WINE features heartfelt story songs such as the title track, "Welfare Train," and "Cheshire Cat Moon, along with tongue-in-cheek favorites like "Gray Hair Blues," "Procrastination," and "Buy More Shoes." The album includes a diversity of musical styles ranging from classic folk to blues ("Tangled") and a bit of country ("He Loved Whiskey"). Her songs create an authentic connection that inspires, stirs the emotions, and makes the listener laugh along the way. Anyone who has ever lived in a small town can relate to "This Old Town," a song that brings to life the magic of living in a close-knit, rural community.

Back-up musicians on the album include legendary folksinger, Claudia Schmidt, and multi-instrumentalist, Jim Henry. This original blend was bottled by Mark Thayer in his Signature Sounds recording studio, hidden away in a magical barn in the Connecticut woods.
